Funny how the election has come out. We had candidates sign the Fossil Fuel Non proliferation treaty. let's give them a chance to get settles then hold them to account.
WE MADE HISTORY! TORONTO COUNCIL BACKS FOSSIL FUEL FREE FUTURE! Thank you everyone for your hard work! Your letters, phone calls, and wide participation in a whirlwind one-month campaign has resulted in a historic victory, one that will be heard around the world, inspiring other activists to make their city next in this global revolution. And it is nothing short of a revolution. To transition from being 80% dependent on fossil fuel energy to being 100% free of fossil fuel energy by 2050- and to meet the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change call for 45% reduction in this decade - 7.6% per year - is a huge transition, and we need everyone on the team. We thank Councillors Mike Layton and Shelley Carroll for submitting the motion, the Mayor, and all the councillors who supported it. It passed 22 - 2.
